It’s easier than ever to find a flight to Antigua and our Best Beach by a Mile. Here is list of airline schedule information for April 2013 into  V.C. Bird International Airport (ANU). And you can find detailed flight information on the Antigua Hotels & Tourist Association website.

  • American (AA) operates daily from Miami (MIA)and operates four (4) times weekly from New York (JFK) (Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday).
  • Air Canada (AC) operates from Toronto(YYZ)on Thursday(04 Apr only), Saturday and Sunday and operates one (1) flight from Montreal (YUL) on Sunday (07 Apr Only).
  • British Airways (BA) operates five (5) times weekly from London(LGW). No operations on Monday and Thursday
  • Caribbean Airlines (BW) operates twice weekly to Kingston(KIN) on Friday & Sunday
  • Virgin Atlantic (VS) operates  direct flights from London (LGW) on Saturdays, via Barbados(BGI) on Wednesday and via St. Lucia(UVF) on Friday.
  • WestJet (WS) operates two (2) flights weekly from Toronto (YYZ) on Sundays and Wednesdays.
  • United (UA) operates daily from Newark (EWR) and two (2) flights on Saturday and Sunday.
  • US Airways(US) operates one (1) flight weekly from Charlotte (CLT) on Saturdays.
  • Condor (DE) operates one (1) flight weekly from Frankfurt (FRA) on Sundays.
  • Canjet (CK) operates one (1) flight from Montreal (YUL) on Sunday (07 Apr only).
  • Blue Panorama (BV) operates one (1) flight weekly from Malspensa (MXP) on Sundays.
  • Air Transat (TS) will operate one (1) flight weekly from YYZ on Saturdays until 20 Apr.
  • Delta will not operate during the month of April.

Yummy New Healthy Choice Breakfast Option

The newest addition to our 2013 “Get Into the Beach of It” program launches this Saturday morning at 7:00 a.m. Yes, it’s early but its breakfast, our new “Healthy Choice” continental breakfast option that will be served in the Utsav Restaurant.

The buffet-style “Healthy Choice” will be served daily from 7:00 a.m. through 11:00 a.m. for our guests who prefer lighter, and later, fare. The well-rounded menu includes an assortment of seasonal fresh fruits and juices, fruit and plain yogurt and a choice of three cereal varieties.  A deli platter features a selection cold cuts and cheese. Varieties of breads baked daily here by our staff include whole wheat and white loaves, plaited Antiguan bread, sweet currant buns and croissants. Banana bread, muffins, scones, cinnamon rolls, tea cakes and Danish round out the menu and of course our delicious coffee and a selection of teas will be served.

Our new “Healthy Choice” continental breakfast is in addition to the full Hemispheres Breakfast Buffet served daily from 7:00 a.m. through 10:00 a.m. The menu at Hemispheres includes “Healthy Choice” options as well as made-to-order eggs and omelets, sausages, bacon and more.

The “Get Into the Beach of It” program launched in January and is focused on giving our guests even more fun fitness and healthy lifestyle choices while vacationing and includes our first Insane Beach Body Boot Camp, April 25-29. April is Health and Fitness Month and we encourage you to start your even healthier habits today. Why wait?

At Jolly Beach Resort & Spa we’re all about casual fun-in-the-sun, a relaxed beach getaway. But even the most laid back of our guests appreciate a fine dining experience and our Ristorante Bocciolo delivers. It’s not unusual to see a bride and groom toasting their nuptials, or anniversary and birthday celebrations at dinner.

The Food. The menu is Italian inspired with a dollop of Antiguan flavor. You start with a savory and abundant antipasti bar of grilled marinated vegetables, cured meats, mozzarella and tomato with basil pesto, an olive medley, crispy squid, rosemary and parmesan polenta chips, and butterbeans with sundried tomato and fried sage leaves. First course choices include prawn linguini, ricotta ravioli, risotto with Italian sausage and angel hair with scallops. Have some pizza topped with three cheeses and roast vegetables, smoky bacon and pepperoni or a medley of olives, mushrooms, artichoke hearts and anchovies. Then, for your main course the menu includes veal osso buco, grilled chicken served with a tomato, olive, chili and caper compote, baked fresh-caught fish with mussels and clams, and pork chop in Marsala sauce.

The Fun. And at Jolly Beach you know that fine dining doesn’t equal boring. Maître d’ Bradley Meade and his staff execute synchronized service, an elegant technique used in five-star restaurants. What does all the time spent training and drilling the staff mean to our diners? Showtime! As each course is served, one waitperson per guest circles your table. The lead waiter signals and voilà, all the plates are set on the table simultaneously; an efficient and fun performance at every course.

Bocciolo also stands out as our à la carte restaurant with a dress code. Think casual elegance, trousers and collared shirts for gentlemen and no sandals, slippers, sneakers or jeans. And not to worry, it’s air-conditioned.

The Most Challenging Thing That I’ve Ever Had To Do

This weekend I marked a personal best. I participated in a 14km walk/run to the top of the highest point in Antigua, Mount Obama. This turned out to be the most challenging thing that I’ve ever done since my quest for fitness began 4 months ago.

It was dark arriving at Ffreys Beach for the start of the hike at 5:00am, but the mood was anything but with 59 people ready to spend the next 2 ½ hours together, supporting each other to reach a common goal.  There were clusters of people who stuck together and motivated each other throughout the walk.  It was great team spirit.

The instructors were terrific, making us push ourselves but not so much that we couldn’t keep up.  There were moments when I wanted to slow down or just stop but being part of a group and having the instructors confidence in us kept my feet moving. I tried to pace myself knowing that to reach my goal I’d have to go uphill for the last 15 minutes. Then came the hill, I knew that this was the biggest test, but what accomplishment to overcome it.

My muscles felt the exertion on Sunday, my hike didn’t include a massage like the Insane Beach Body Boot Camp Package but that’s OK, I’d do it again in a minute.
